Demographic and Health Surveys (MEASURE DHS+) assists developing countries worldwide in the collection and use of data to monitor and evaluate population, health, and nutrition programs. Demographic and health surveys provide information on family planning, maternal and child health, child survival, HIV/AIDS/sexually transmitted infections (STI), and reproductive health. In addition, MEASURE DHS+ can assist with improving on-going data collection efforts, such as health information systems, to efficiently meet information needs in a cost-effective manner.

The database provides an easily accessible comprehensive source of information on HIV/AIDS indicators derived from sample surveys. The database allows the user to produce tables for specific countries by select background characteristics. The indicators included are derived from the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) National AIDS Programs: Guide to Monitoring and Evaluation.

The International HIV/AIDS Alliance (the Alliance) is an international development non-governmental organization (NGO) which was set up in 1993 by a consortium of international donors. The Alliance was established to respond to the need for a specialist, professional intermediary organization which would work in effective partnership with NGOs and community-based organizations (CBOs) in developing countries, as well as with national governments, private and public donors and the United Nations (UN) system. The Alliance's mission is to support communities in developing countries to play a full and effective role in the global response to AIDS.

The Rural AIDS and Development Action Research (RADAR) program comprises clinical and social intervention research on HIV/AIDS, with an emphasis on developing model approaches that are appropriate and relevant to the rural African context. It is founded on the premise that the HIV epidemic is rooted in biological, behavioural and social processes--reflecting complex and dynamic relationships within countries and between them. Generating an effective response will therefore require a similar diversity of strategies at the level of individuals and populations.

The Synergy Project
